Fantasy Faire 2023: Noble Houses

I love taking photos at the Fantasy Faire while the Fairelands are still around, but to show off the beautiful new buildings from Del-ka Aedilis I had to return home and play around with building a whole new renaissance quarter to accommodate them! There’s a total of eight new buildings added to the Medici series and I’ve worked three of those into my setup together with a pair of previous releases.  In addition, I have added decor pieces from Harshlands and Contraption. But first, lets take a look at what I am wearing.

The Blacksmith’s Daughter

Just waiting at the castle’s forge for her father to return home from the tavern, where he has been spending too much time of late.

The Brokk Blacksmith set from Del-ka Aedilis is a nice set of non-animated props for creating a norse/medieval forge. I did find the lack of an anvil curious, so I added one from another set. The fires can be doused or lit and each piece comes in either plain wood or with a norse-inspired pattern.

I am wearing three new releases from We Love Role-Play. First we have the Atlas Gorget from Kreep, a very fancy piece of smithing which includes male and female fits and several texture options. The tunic is by Senzafine and I love the asymmetric cut. Finally, we have the Gudrun boots from Rakshasa. These are available for several male and female bodies and include a HUD for texture changes. Very nice and useful boots.

My hair is also a new release, the latest Truth & Wasabi collaboration called Seri. It comes in two versions, like this or with bangs, and is available at Kustom9.

Be Welcome

The large inn lay furthest out on the peninsula and served travellers coming both by land and sea. The dusky interior was cheerfully lit by torches and by the smile of the tavernkeep’s daughter.

There are so many new releases that I absolutely adore in this post. First, make certain not to miss the Spring Edition of the Asha hair from Wasabi, out for 50 Linden Friday. This is my favourite braid in Second Life and it is so pretty with the flowers. I had already decided on wearing Asha for this post and then the special edition came out and made the look even better, its so sweet together with the lovely Emma gown by Les Encantades, a new release for We Love Role-Play. The dress can be worn with or without the embroidered corset and the fullpack you can mix and match the colours.

Sins of the Father

How fortunate that I sent Ran to shop the Salt & Pepper retirement sale, because a few days later it turned out that a naughty priest was just what I needed for the couple pose “the Noose” from Be My Mannequin.  Clearly, the temptation of the beautiful concubine was too much for this man of the cloth.

I am wearing the very revealing Keraves dress from Petrichor & Ersch, a one-piece outfit with plenty of texture options for the fabric and the gems. Here I went with gold and red to match the utterly stunning Theodora Circlet from Old Treasures. That has to be my new favourite piece of jewellery in SL. And it fits very well with the beautiful new Morgana hair from Magika, a must-have style.

The Woodsman’s Wife

One day, she came to his cottage in the middle of the woods, wearing clothing in the colours of the wood and with a strange mark on her forehead.

There’s a new round of We Love Role-Play on its way in just a few days, so of course I’ve got to tease a few upcoming things. But first up, a look at the Woodcutter Shed from Del-ka Aedilis, a simple but nice addition for any medieval, norse or just rustic setup. A log is ready for being worked on, a stack of logs are stored against the back and on the side of the shed hangs an axe and a saw.

As for what you an expect from WLRP, the Blanca dress from Les Encantades has a rustic fantasy feel, especially in this colour combination. I found the fit on Maitreya a little so-so in terms of a lot of alphaing being needed, though with a dress that really doesn’t matter so much. The Eye of the Forest cosmetic set features eyeshadow and a forehead design and comes from Reviver.

The beautiful long hair with the charming strands of hair falling over the face is Iliana from Wasabi, out at the Fifty. I love most things about this style, though it seems to expect rather larger breasts than my avatar has.

Regal Reception

Few were granted the honour of meeting with the King’s favourite in her private apartments, from where it was said she ruled the King and thus the kingdom. She was beautiful, garbed in green and gold, and very dangerous.

From Zaara comes the beautiful Kashmira Lehenga, consisting of a beautiful, embroidered top over a skirt and accessorised with a scarf.  The fatpack allows you to mix and match all the colours, for some lovely combinations. The elaborate hair jewellery is made by Antaya and the HUD includes a good range of colour options for each section, so it was easy to match it to the outfit. Finally, I added part of the Ceres tattoo from Nefekalum, with materials for an extra bit of golden sheen.  All these new releases are from We Love Role-Play, whereas the decor consists of older releases from Old Treasures, Del-ka Aedilis, Libertine and Paper Moon.

Lupa

We Love Role-Play has opened its February round. The sim has changed from Riverhunt to We Love RolePlay, so make sure to use the new address!

Del-ka Aedilis has released the At the Lupanar - Chelidonis set, centered around a large daybed with additional accessories in the form of a paravent, a sidetable, an oil lamp, a set of flacons, a washbowl and an amphora. It is a set designed for a Roman brothel, also called a “Lupanar”. The animations in the daybed are selected for this purpose and feature one menu of single poses and the rest are either for couples or threesomes.

I decided to set it up in one of the Roman houses released by Fanatik a while back, imagining it as the “front parlour” of the brothel, with an upstairs available as well. Not historically accurate, but then neither is what I am wearing. ;) But for a fantasy take on a Romanesque setting, this Petrichor & Ersch collaboration makes for a pretty fetching outfit for our “Lupa”. I did forego some parts of it, which was easy because it comes with a HUD that allows you to full control over what to hide and show. Very handy!

Domesticity

With a little (okay, a lot) of help from Del-ka Aedilis, I have started piecing together a little Renaissance-inspired household. The building used is the Townhouse Isabella from the Medici series, an elegant two-story house with beautiful stonework on the outside and different wall colours and floor textures for the various rooms. In one of the rooms, I placed the Atticus closet, the Agrippa storage chest and the Livia cabinet. There are several versions of each piece—plain, Roman ornaments and Medieval ornaments—as well as several wood colour options. Additionally, the storage chest (which can be either open or closed) comes in one empty and two filled versions, with different folded outfits in each.

To fit into the scene, I picked the Raphaelle Gown from Senzafine and the elegant Costanza d’Altavilla hair from F&M Oblivion. The necklace was a gift from Old Treasures at the last Shop & Hop.

The Kitchen Helper

Happy new year and time to get used to writing 2023! I’ve had the usual lazy first day of the new year, which has involved a few hours (or so…) in front of the computer. Part of the time was spent setting up a medieval kitchen from Del-ka Aedilis and taking some photos of a bit of virtual cooking, which is about all the cooking I am up for right now after the holidays. I should probably stick to virtual food for a while as well. ;)

The kitchen set includes the hearth, a table setup for sausage making, a sideboard with a basket of vegetables and cutting boards and a simple stool. The set is rustic and nicely detailed, with a very authentic feel. The only animations are in the stool, which has a few basic sits. For the photos, I used animations from Dutchie’s New Amsterdam Kitchen. I would actually love to see a HUD with various simple roleplay animations, perhaps one you could expand with different animation sets. That would be great for matching with sets of furnitures and props that don’t come with their own animations.

Alone at the Tavern

Del-ka Aedilis latest release is a Roman tavern table (though it will fit into many historical/fantasy scenarios) that offers a selection of single and couple animations, for male and female avatars. Some of the animations, like the eating and drinking ones, include auto-rezzing props. I setup the table in one of the builds from Fanatik’s Roman village set; this one is technically a warehouse but works nicely as a tavern as well. The decor in the background is also from Del-ka Aedilis.

Proper Roman clothing for women is pretty hard to come by in SL, so I opted for more of a fantasy look with the Pandora gown from Tres. The Celeste hair from Magika isn’t all that Roman either, but very pretty. Red hair was quite popular, often achieved with various more or less disgusting bleaching methods and then henna on top of that.

The Rune Tree

Just a moody shot inspired by the season, dark and autumnal and with the Samhain Rune Tree from Del-ka Aedilis as the focal point. With a carved stone set in front of the tree and runes made from twigs dangling from its bare branches, it definitely fires up the imagination. Has perhaps more gruesome things hung from those branches as well?

Forum Romanum

A little while ago, Fanatik released a wonderful collection of Roman buildings. With these, you can build your very own Roman town, with houses, warehouses, temples and a forum. There was also a package of Roman roads and a gorgeous villa Rustica, for the country lord living in style outside of the town. The textures for these sets are fantastic and they are easily resized if you find the defaults a bit too large. I am showing just a few shots here, to give a sense of the overall look of the pieces, but I am thinking of doing a video walk through of a build as well.

Another piece of Roman-inspired decor is the well bearing the SPQR inscription seen in the first two shots. It is from Del-ka Aedilis and also nicely resizable for when you’re rather short by SL standards. It looks great in the forum!

The hair is from F&M Oblivion, an elaborate updo that I don’t think was intended as Roman in style but sort of could pass for some of the braided arrangements we see on busts. My dress is from TRES for We Love Role-Play, a sleek fantasy gown with a nice ornate belt detail and a lovely back. For this release, TRES has added sizes for three new bodies, Belleza Gen X and Prima Femme Busty & Petite. I am actually wearing Prima Femme Petite for this post, together with a few of the very nice body deformers that add extra versatility to the shapes you can achieve. I will be digging into this body with a full review shortly! In the meantime, check it out at FaMESHed!

The Horse Show is Here Again

A market had sprung up in front of the castle, with colourful stalls selling all sorts of wares; fruits of all kinds, large wheels of cheese, fine fabrics, and so on. There was also a space set aside where horses for sale were hitched, waiting for buyers. One of them caught her eye, a pony with a golden coat. She had bought an apple from the fruit seller for herself, but now she held it out to the pony, who took it carefully. Later, she returned with a second apple, untied the pony from the post and asked if it would come with her. Together, they walked away from the market, pausing only to eye the cheese on the way out.

The 2022 Horse Show, with everything you could possibly need for your Teeglepets and Teegle Avatars, is here. Expect more than a few posts featuring new releases from the Horse Show from now until October 2nd, when it ends. In this post, you’ve got the simple but useful apple from Multifarious (it includes a hand animation for the human avatar) as well as the beautiful Sunny coat from artMEfashion.

But I do like trying to mix it up a bit, so in this post I am also featuring new(ish) releases from F&M Oblivion and Del-ka Aedilis for We Love Role-Play and the Fantasy Room.

A Lady’s Fancy

Puppy, vacation and getting the website ready for House of the Dragon. Those are some of my excuses for why I haven’t blogged for several weeks; while I could have found the time, I’ve been too busy to give inspiration a chance. I stared for two full weeks at the same outfit, trying to figure out what to do with. In the end, I changed it up and decided to head down to the market instead to inspect the clothseller’s wares and perhaps order a new gown.

The Hedeby Clothmaker’s Stall from Del-ka Aedilis is out at Redeux until August 30th.  The set includes a market tent with pennants, a table with bales of fabric and additional fabric in crates and baskets.

My lady is wearing a gown from the Annex and the hairstyle with the two long braids is Aliana from Wasabi. It includes various 80’s-inspired ornaments on the braids but for this post I turned them off. The skin is a special version of Salma from DeeTaleZ, a weekend sale item from a couple of weeks ago. I love the freckles!

The Viking Hut

Where did July go? Oh I know, our new puppy ate the whole month! Its been a fun (but sometimes exhausting) few weeks and not until now have I been able to steal some time for blogging. Which means there’s quite a back log of things I really want to showcase, some of them no longer brand new releases.

One of these is the Viking Hut Gamla from Del-ka Aedilis. This is a commoners dwelling and I like the idea of this simple hut being found far away from a village, with perhaps an outlaw or a wise old woman living in it. In this case, I think it must be an outlaw, seeing the fine horse with the fancy tack hitched outside. The horse is by Teegle, of course, and the tack by Cheval D’or.

The Viking Hut Gamla comes in this mossy version and a regular one, plus in a separate package there’s a snow-covered version. Also included are three different textures for the door with different symbols and a lighter wall texture.
